Digital Locker

The days of physical media ownership are slowly coming to an end. Physical media suffers from a number of inconveniences in a digital age, such as a) a physical footprint, where storage becomes an issue, b) “decayability”, or a loss of integrity over time and c) a lack of accessibility, whereby if there is no physical access to an asset, it can’t be used.

Recognising this, Juno Interactive is in the process of building a digital media storage solution, called simply Digital Locker, which provides all the benefits of physical media, without the above limitations.

Importantly, users of the service will still have a sense of ownership of their media assets. The service will move away from the idea that “files” need to be stored in “folders”, as these concepts are awkward outside of the physical world, and will integrate media assets into consumers’ behaviour rather than forcing a distribution method onto them.

The idea of the digital locker is nothing new, but existing implementations have so far failed to really innovate outside of providing scalable storage services via the Internet, and Juno Interactive hopes to start adding value above and beyond commoditised storage in this space.
